Who doesn’t enjoy an excuse to share the love! Even if you don’t intend to shop this v-day, we’ve got some helpful ideas for putting the love back into Valentine’s day, without breaking your ethics or costing a fortune. (Tip: these work great for singles as well!)
The Dinner Date. Great news! There’s absolutely nothing unethical about eating a deliciously prepared meal using plates that will be reused. Be sure to choose a restaurant that suits both of your values and it’s always a good idea to get your reservation in early. Bonus – having a good quality conversation while someone else does the cooking. If this isn’t your style…
Make someone you love a home-cooked meal. Got kids? Get them involved! It needn’t be fancy but nothing says ‘I love you’ like doing the shopping, the cooking AND the washing up… and don’t forget the wine. If you’re solo, invite a friend or a group of people to join you in some love and laughter. If you’re not feeling confident try something low-key but incredibly romantic like a picnic at the park or beach.
Get some exercise together. Even if this is something new to your relationship/friendship, trust me, you’ll like this one… Plan a bike ride or a nature-walk for half an hour before sunset and enjoy the magic-hour together. If you’ve been considering trying a new class, testing out that indoor trampoline park, roller-skating rink or hiring a city-bike, here’s your chance! Grab a friend and enjoy the spirit of life with good company and get your hearts pumping for all the right reasons.
It’s not all about the gift, but gifts are lovely too! Why not try;
A Spa/Massage Voucher – the ultimate gift of time-out and happy sighs. If you live with the giftee don’t forget to make time for them to go out and be treated. You’ll be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn’t enjoy a relaxing foot massage or face treatment.
A hand-made card or vouchers. I have to confess that craft isn’t a strong suit for me, but I’ll let you in on a little secret – Pinterest has some great downloadable and DIY card or voucher ideas! Check them out for some easy printables with lots of heart.
A flowering plant. An alternative to cut flowers, give a gift that can be nurtured and grown for many years to come. (Hint: if you’re not sure about where this plant will spend the rest of its life, you can always grab a voucher).
Leaving it to the last minute? Visit your local market for something pre-loved or hand-made, like the Sustainable Living Festival’s COMPASSIONATE LIVING, VEGAN VALENTINE’S MARKET or an art and craft market closer to you.
Last but not least;
Something sexy.. Not everyone will feel the same way about receiving underwear as a gift but it may spark some laughs or something more fun, so we’ll leave this one up to you. *wink*
