Our mission is to educate, promote and inspire growth in the ethical and sustainable fashion industry. In doing so, we support and share qualified businesses with our passionate audience, and are on a continuous journey to learn about new innovations and business models.
It is crucial that we support businesses offering high levels of sustainable, ethical practice and values, and have created a guide of specific criteria we look for in order to meet these goals.
Businesses appearing on the Ethical Fashion Review™ Brand Directory have been independently researched to ensure they meet two or more of our key criteria as follows.
1. All brand partners provide confirmation of ethical production practices, by either;
- handmade in-house; or ethically-made in Australia
- fair trade certified;
- equivalent living-wage* and human rights policy, supply-chain transparency
- *Suggested Sources: Asia Floor Wage, Global Living Wage Coalition
2. Use no less than one of the following environmentally sustainable production practices or initiatives listed below;
- certified organic materials
- reused and recycled materials
- environmentally sustainable production (e.g. UN Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action)
- small batch or made to order
- new innovations in waste reduction or reuse and empowering people
- social impact programs and charity partnership programs
- cruelty-free, animal friendly or conservation organisations
Using the above criteria, the Review team have researched, cross-checked and inquired into statements by hundreds of brands around the world, to deliver the most trustworthy and comprehensive directory of ethical and sustainable fashion and lifestyle brands possible.
Our sources include publicly available information such as a company’s certifications and official business statements, as well as online research, industry reports and guides (see our Resources page for ideas on how you can conduct your own research).
By setting our standards high, we’ve attempted to cut through the ‘green-washing’ (generalised or unsubstantiated ‘eco’ and ethical claims) with the goal of raising the bar that defines what is to be considered an ethical fashion brand. It is our mission to make shopping ethically as easy and enjoyable as possible, and with your help, more people and businesses will join the revolution!
